"In the context of what I would call my 'spiritual crisis' which would perhaps be termed psychotic episodes by certain health professionals, the climax of my experiences was that in a sort of vision I saw my friend Dave and a young lady. Dave was to my right and she was to my left. I was also rehearsing this scene at the same time and pointing towards Dave I said: "You shall be called Jesus." Pointing towards the young lady I said: "You shall be called Mary." I further said: "Jesus shall go to Jerusalem and Mary to Aam." I said some other things as well that were somewhat unclear, some things like: " I have your cheers in my heart, cheers in your heart, cheers in heaven." etc etc. There were other experiences in other instances as well but this was the climax of them all I believe. Here are some things also wrote previously about this sort of vision that I had back in 1991 and about some of my other experiences around that time: "I said: 'Mary shall be at work until she leaves the ... of the elders.' I said: 'Jesus shall wait till the time has come.' I said: 'I have been chosen to serve the Lord. You have been chosen to serve the Lord. Praise be to the Lord.' ... There were further elements in this sort of vision. There were 3 cups - one for each of us - Dave, Elizabeth and myself. Mine was the one in the middle and was taller. And there were 3 tea bags of different flavors. On my right was a Bible on a table. There was a plate. Reference was made to the four corners of the world. I was wearing a white shirt and black pants. Two sofas were set for Dave and Elizabeth. They would be greeted on entering the room." "In another sort of vision, I saw myself going to New York with a Bible and a Quran in my bag. I was to meet a man with a briefcase on which would be written: 'Doctor of Literature.'" "Regarding Dave and Liz, they studied at Bates College in the US where I did my undergraduate studies many years ago." "Before my first hospitalisation of 1991 many strange types of thoughts came to my mind. I seem to have believed for instance that I would go to New York where I would meet someone who would hold a briefcase on which would be written 'Doctor of Literature'. I imagined two groups of thirteen people whereby one from the first group would go to the second group and another one from the second group would go to the first group. The figure 26 for instance seemed to have a special significance for me and at times I related it to the two groups of thirteen whereby 13 and 13 amounted to a sum of 26. I started reading and underlining various portions of the bible and I felt that as if a superior force was making me read these portions. I associated one group of 13 with the white colour and the other group with the black colour. So I thought that a white one would join the group of black ones and a black one would join the group of white ones. I am attempting to explore all this at present to reflect on certain strange thought patterns I've had since the episodes of 1991 to an extent which I can hopefully handle and process. Regarding the portions of the bible that I was reading as if compelled to do so by a superior power, many of these portions seem to have been from the Book of Isaiah in the Old Testament." "The following words came to my mind at some point during my grandiose experiences in Mitchell House in 1991: "Daffy Duck has died." At one point in Mitchell House I opened up a book by Bertrand Russell which I had used for my module on Introduction to Philosophy and I read from it: "The world of universals" I felt that these words had deep and profound meanings at that time. I further opened up the English version of the Bhagvad Gita that Sucharita Sahu had offered to me and I read from it: "Age after age I appear" or something of the sort. The thought of the Buddha also came to me at some point and I perhaps felt that I was experiencing something like what he had experienced. All these were new types of experiences for me."
Interpreting dreams, especially those intertwined with significant personal experiences like yours, can be both complex and deeply personal. It's important to remember that dream symbolism is shaped by individual beliefs, experiences, and emotions. Given the elements of your dream and visions, let’s break down the key components and explore potential meanings.
1. Spiritual Crisis and Psychotic Episodes: Your acknowledgment of a "spiritual crisis" suggests a deep inner turmoil and a search for meaning or understanding during tumultuous times. Dreams during such periods may reflect your subconscious mind's struggle to process what you are experiencing. The connection between spiritual experiences and psychotic episodes can indicate an exploration of existential questions, transformation, and a yearning for understanding or connection.
2. Symbolism of Jesus and Mary: The choice of the names "Jesus" and "Mary" suggests a call to explore themes of spirituality, motherhood, and sacrifice. By bestowing these names upon your friend Dave and the young woman, you may be projecting qualities or aspirations you see in them or in yourself. This could represent a deeper yearning for guidance, strength, or inspiration during your challenging times.
3. Cups and Tea Bags: The imagery of cups and tea bags may symbolize the different flavors or dimensions of relationships and experiences in your life. The taller cup could represent yourself or your journey, indicating a central role in your narrative. The act of sharing tea could signify the importance of communion, friendship, and sharing experiences, suggesting a desire for connection with others.
4. References to New York and Literature: Dreaming of going to New York, especially with a Bible and a Quran, suggests an exploration of diverse beliefs and knowledge systems. This melting pot of cultures could symbolize a desire for understanding and reconciliation between different views. The mention of a "Doctor of Literature" might represent a search for wisdom or a guide to help you navigate these complex feelings and experiences.
5. Groups of Thirteen: The repeated emphasis on the number 26 through groups of 13 could indicate a search for balance or duality, perhaps reflecting your own internal conflicts. White and black could symbolize purity and darkness, suggesting your journey to integrate various aspects of your identity or experiences.
6. Biblical Influence: The compulsion to read certain biblical passages might indicate a need for grounding or a connection to something greater than yourself. The Book of Isaiah often deals with themes of hope, divine presence, and calling—elements that can resonate during times of personal turmoil.
7. Daffy Duck and Bertrand Russell: The mention of "Daffy Duck has died" juxtaposed with philosophical themes can highlight a sense of absurdity in your experiences, perhaps representing how your rational understanding of the world feels shaken. Exploring the nature of existence, as indicated by the quote from Bertrand Russell, suggests a profound contemplation of reality and knowledge.
8. The Buddha and Spiritual Quest: Your reflections on the Buddha indicate a searching for wisdom, enlightenment, or inner peace. This could reveal an aspiration to find stillness or understanding amidst chaos.
In summary, your dream reflects a deeply personal journey that intertwines spirituality, connections with others, existential questions, and the quest for understanding amidst moments of crisis. The blend of biblical and philosophical references suggests a meaningful process of self-discovery and reconciliation of various aspects of your identity. Engaging in therapy, meditation, or creative expression might further help you process these complex feelings. It may also be valuable to maintain a journal to document your thoughts and feelings as you continue to explore these themes.
